DUNEDIN - The gates opened, the lights came on, and the sellout crowd
filed into Dunedin Field to witness another Strato Super Bowl classic
matchup. Two veteran coaches would once again face each other in an
epic quest for Strato's most treasured possession and honor, the Superbowl
trophy.
It has often been said, "Strato is one third coaching, one third drafting, and one third luck." Luck, or a lack thereof, was gnawing at the heals of the Wizards offense, as they coughed up the ball five times. Something you just can't do in a big game against a great coach. An ominous silence enveloped the Wizards sideline after QB Philip Rivers' second pass of the game was intercepted. The Pachyderms went into the 2010 season with one goal - to "three-peat." The Pach coach wore a three-pete cap all season, confidently predicting he would win it all, again. RB Chris Johnson was causing season long headaches for the Pach coaching staff as he led the league in fumbles, and was constantly putting the ball on the ground. Johnson was shopped around earlier in the season. But when the postseason started the coach leaned on Johnson hard and he came through with 57 carries for 409 yards, 3 tds and only one fumble. The Pach defense was sturdy and was successful in keeping the superb passing games of Matt Shaub and Philip Rivers in check. Late in the game, and despite the ugly turnovers the Wizards were still alive. Trailing 19-17 late in the fourth quarter, and possession of the ball, RB Fred Jackson was hit hard at the line and fumbled. One by one, the hulking bodies reluctantly left the pile and a Pachyderm defender finally stood up with the rock, ensuring the Pachyderms third straight Superbowl victory. |
