CLEARWATER -- Those getting to Harrier Field early got to see the Easyriders and Commandos wrap up their season, a wild one the Commandos took 51-38.

Pre-game festivities pushed the start time back a little, but Superbowl 2009 between two cagey veteran coaches finally got underway at 5:30pm, EST. The Jax won the coin toss, but soon discovered it was going to be tough sledding against an underrated 'Derm defense.

After the Jackals were forced to punt on their first possesion, the herd marched the ball effortlessly into the Jax red zone, but had to settle for a 25 yard field goal by kicker Nick Folk at 8:30 in the first quarter. The Jax got on the board when QB Chad Pennington connected with RB Willis McGahee for a 13 yard TD pass at the 2:30 mark, making the score 7-3. But that was the last we heard from the Jackals' offense until the fourth quarter. At 13:00 minutes in the first period, Pach QB Sean Hill hit wideout Santana Moss for a 14 yard touchdown pass, and took the lead 10-7. The Jax defense was dealt an early blow, as left defensive end Ty Warren fell awkwardly while chasing star Pachyderm RB Chris Johnson in the second period. Word from the Jax sideline was Warren would not be returning to the game, opening up Johnson's favorite jogging trail around right end. As time was running out in the quarter, Folk nailed a 21 yard chip shot and the teams headed to the locker rooms with the 'Derms leading 13-7.

The second half started with the Pach shocking the Jax by recovering an unaticipated onside kick. The tactic perhaps ended up working against the Pachyderms as later in the game, the Jax defense was finally mustering the resolve to stop the marauding Pach offensive machine. After thundering down to the Jackals 24 yard line, Sean Hill hit TE Jason Witten on a post pattern for a TD at 10:45, extending the Pach lead to 20-7. On drive after drive, the 'Derm defense bent but did not break. Pach linebacker Akeem Jordan and TE Jason Witten were injured and did not return. Later in the third quarter, Nick Folk drilled another field goal, this one from 41 yards out, making the tally 23-7. As the period ended, the Jackals had been held held scoreless for over 32 minutes of football.

When the fourth quarter started, the Jax were facing a formidable task indeed. They were down sixteen points, and still hadn't figured out how to take advantage of Pachyderm defensive weaknesses. After finally stringing together some much needed first downs, Pennington tossed his second TD pass of the game, hitting WR Mushin Muhammed for 13 yards at the 12:00 minute mark. The Jax decided the only avenue to victory was to try for a two-point conversion and get the ball back without letting the Pach score. The Jax got their two-pointer, setting up one of the most dramatic finishes in Superbowl history. With time dwindling away, the Jackals commenced their final desperate drive toward destiny. The Jax three wide receiver set was getting man to man coverage, as the Pach didn't bring in their nickel package. With only 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Pennington hit WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh with a 12 yard scoring strike, bringing the score to 23-21. The Jackals would need one more two-point conversion, however, to tie it up and send the Superbowl to overtime.

The Jackals decided they were going try ramming the ball up the nose of the Pach for the toughest two yards in Strat-O. And the Pach had decided the Jax were going to run it, so the teams lined up for what might be the final snap of the season. Willis McGahee got the call, and after a couple strides and a mighty leap, he sailed over the huge pile of bodies for the 72 inches that sent the game to the first-ever Superbowl overtime period.

The Jackals won the coin toss and had their first shot at sending the Pach packing. Both teams had three possesions in OT. The 'Derms finally got into field goal range for Nick Folk after a Chris Johnson 14 yard run. Folk had been hitting from 58 yards in the pre-game warmups. With the ball resting at the Jax 29 yard line, the Pach brought in the field goal unit on first down. Folk's 46 yard kick at 2:30 in OT was right down the middle, ending one of the most epic post-season battles ever.
