2014 SUPER BOWL

PALM HARBOR -- In a clash between grizzled veteran coaches, the Wizards highly regarded offense outlasted the Harriers 35-14.

The stars had lined up for the Harriers who won the North Division at 8-8 thanks to a tie breaker over the Jackals. The late blooming Harriers continued their fairytale romp to the Super Bowl by besting the heavily favored Palominos 38-34 in their Playoff game.

But the clouds rolled in on the 'Birds half way through the 2nd quarter, as WR DeSean Jackson's 51 yard TD reception was their final score on Super Bowl Sunday. Wizard's kicker Caleb Sturgis nailed a 37 yard FG as the half expired with the Harriers leading 14-13.

The 'Wiz went on the score three unanswered TD's and a two-point conversion in the 2nd half.

Early in the game, the Harriers lost starting RCB Tarell Brown (5) after he suffered an apparent concussion while tackling Wizards RB LeSean McCoy. The 'Birds were forced into some painful adjustments on defense. Extra RCB (5) Rogers-Cromartie who had been planted in the long pass zone since early December moved into the injured Brown's corner position and DaNorris Searcy (4) took on a traditional roll at safety.

A little later, Harriers LOLB Connor Barwin went down after pulling his left hamstring while in pass coverage. Wizards QB Philip Rivers was quick to exploit the added defensive weakness. RB LeSean McCoy's 21 yard TD scamper late in the 3rd quarter put the 'Wiz up 28-14, a lead they would not relenquish.

Statistically, League observers concluded the Wizards ran about twice as many plays as the Harriers. QB Philip Rivers had a steady afternoon completing 25 of 44 passes, for 255 yards, 3 TD's and an interception. RB LeSean McCoy capped off an MVP season by rushing 29 times for 164 yards and a touchdown. McCoy also had six receptions for 63 yards.

The Wizards last hoisted the coveted Strato Super Bowl Trophy in 2002.
